I don't think I have ever read an adoption story that didn't have at least one bump to it. We're working through one of ours right now. Unfortunately, it means throwing money at it (why not!) and a little time as well. With the new Hague guidelines, the home study is supposed to list out every special need that you would be open to. Every. Special. Need. How in the world are you supposed to do that when people and special needs cannot be put into boxes?? Anyway, this is not a huge deal, but because our Ping Ping's special need was just a wee bit different than one of the ones listed and the home study did not specifically say "congenital cataract" (yes, that is one of her SN's), we are having to file an addendum with USC1S with our previously approved I-800a. So, how long will this take you ask? Well, approvals for I-800a's currently are taking about 30 days, so that is pretty much what we can expect for an approval on our addendum, I hope. Thank the GOOD LORD that we figured this out when we did (and actually asked about it, not ignoring it and hoping we wouldn't have to because our agency thought we would NOT have to file this addendum) because the part we are waiting for--LOA (Letter or Approval)-- with the CC4A is currently taking between 60-90 days. So, really no time will be lost, assuming the CC4A is not super fast with our approval, nor the USC1S super slow with our approval.
And to all those in the home study phase of adoption: make SURE that your home study puts a little extra "room" in to your list of SN's. Something like, "they are open to the following, but not limited to" would be great. Otherwise, expect to pay the big bucks after you find your little one if his or her SN is not on your list.

I just called this week about that VERY question and was told that they approve for minor, moderate, and severe special needs in the home study- not necessarily the list. My question to them was what happens if you become open to more SN as time goes by. They told me that as long as I was approved for the "level" of severity already that it would be no big deal. I may need you to email me. We are still a few days from the home study. Do I just need to put the whole MCC in my home study to be safe?

I know I've said it before, but I owe you a HUGE thank you for bringing this up. My situation was different, but you brought up a great point. Thank you for sharing your experience!
You guys have had more than your fair share of bumps. Way to patient! Okay, maybe you didn't feel patient, but you've made it this far!
Yes, God loves bumps!!! Just keep focusing on the One that has you're little one in the palm of his hand! You'll get through this too!!!!
