Middle Child Syndrome

Little Timothy. I can't believe how big he has gotten! I missed a birthday post a few days back, so this one is for T.

When we came home from China with two weeks of looking into the face of a beautiful little porcelain face with lovely brown eyes, I was shocked to see Timmy's huge blue eyes with long curled eyelashes. I missed his little dimple so much! Timothy is my cuddler. He's my lovebug. And he is a teaser and a poker and a let's-see-what-happens-when-I-try-this type of sibling. I wish I could shelter him from all the bad that will happen to him because he takes it all to heart. And yet, he doesn't seem to learn that if he just backed off a bit, he'd be much better off. I'm sure that you can guess, I am referring to his interactions with LilyJoy. He asked me last week when we would be taking "this little sister" back to China.

I knew it would be hard for Tim Tim to adjust. Truly, he was the one I was worried about. This morning he wanted to eat his eggs with a baby spoon. And then he wanted me to feed him-- so I did. He's also having a hard time listening and has peed on the floor 3 times now, though he is fully daytime potty trained and has been for a year now. I've been trying to take him aside all by himself and give him loves and cuddles as much as I can, but it is hard with two others who also need me. I just wish I could make him feel more secure.

I totally remember when Jordan was a week old and Daniel pulled the coffee grounds out of the trash and threw them on the kitchen floor ~ he had NEVER done anything like that. I asked him why he did this and he said in his two year old voice "take baby back to hospital"...that was then, now they are 18 and 16 and best friends ~ Daniel started "looking out" for Jordan within a few weeks of the coffee grounds incident and the bond they have is incredible! Hang in there, something tells me that little Timmy will be just as protective of his little sister as well:)

Poor baby!! You're good to feed him and let him use his baby spoon. I always reminded Peyton that if he needed "Mommy" time to just tell me, and we'd steal some precious moments away together. He's been acting up more with the baby on the way lately so we've been having those talks once again!

Hang in there! Before you know it, he'll realize all the cool things big boys get to do that his baby sister misses out on, and he'll back to himself in no time! Soak up whatever babying he'll let you give him now! Seems Peyton only wants to cuddle when it's convenient for him nowadays!

C,
My little Kai Man has been a "middle child" now for 2 years, and it does get better. We try and make some "Kai time", "Sierra time" and "Jasper time" every week, though with 3 as you know it is hard. We saw regression with potty training and eating as well, but now...he is the bestest big brother ever. It'll get better. Remember this is all so new to them still. I had Kai "feed" Jasper, change his diaper, dress him, cuddle with him, and that really brought them closer. Take care of yourself. It's tough but soooo worth it!!

Ernie also asked in all seriousness when we were bringing Anna back to Ethiopia.

Hey! Wow! You have your daughter!!! I've only been half-heartedly reading blogs as we get in that intense final phase before travel. Thanks for your encouragement- October really is so soon. Hopefully it won't run into November. Ugh. Just. Want. To. Travel.

It sounds like you're finding routine and that she is walking out the steps toward bonding. Again, so encouraging!

A beautiful, beautiful family! Congratulations!
